Tile Shore – Tile Shore

Starting with flanging sounds, as if some kind of transport is sweeping past you, the album by Tile Shore, with the same title, opens the slightly interrupted thick layer of ambience – the track, called “Orpheus”, saturated by succulent noises of different shades. The commencement is then replaced by “Exosphere”, the bright mass, full of whale-like howling and other sounds of unknown origin and belonging. Undoubtedly, this track reveals space of colossal volume, corresponding to the title of the track, “Exosphere” is the uppermost layer of the Earth’s atmosphere, which becomes to be the first to meet far away radiation and guests from unknown corners of the Universe – it is the first stage of the border between our planet and the outer space, and the track perfectly depicts this absorbing and soaring feeling, the discrepant feelings of maximum rarefaction, weightlessness and proximity to the planet. “Tile Blog” is represented by the complete system of sounds – from irregular and movable – to almost static or slowly gliding. I would say, that it is a sonic cocktail, constituted by wind rushes, hovering massive clouds, flickering patches of sunlight and inconceivable flows of flower fragrances. “Shades Of Drafts” as if continuing the previous mood, supplements and develops it – into a certain state of celestial cerenity, with its imposingly approaching and flying away rags of gentle sounds and sudden, but not irritating ringings. “Swamp Smoke” reminded me of the ambience, which could exist during the ancient times, when extincted animals were living – like dinosaurs, gigantic dragonflies and so on – because of the chirring and fullness with strange voices, which initially (in the process of recording) could be the human voices, but later the authors changed them out of all recognition, so that they become like voices of huge reptiles. Though, of course, I can be wrong with this association. The completion of the album, “Outflow” is a pleasant smooth ambience, which is interlaced with some field recordings of something metal, light-heartedly tinkling in the beginning of the track, giving a way to the main vibrations. Tile Shore is a Russian ambient project, consisting of two members – Anton Berkov and Serg Alexeev, who felicitously combined the music with a nice set of photographs to each of the track. The cover literally reflects the title of the album – it is the sea shore, divided into tiles, which are black-and-white in the peripheryand almost the whole picture, and coloured in the center. So, find time to enjoy this magic place, “Tile Shore”.

Wialenove – The Path III

Starting with furious drum capers in the first track, Wialenove’s “Path III”, the third part of his cosmic “Path” trilogy, is continued in a calm, soaring ambient manner. Here you can find “Anthem Of Space”, with spreading volutes of gentle chords, against the phasing background, “Wheel Of Time”, a symphony-like piece, with stretched melody and synthetic vocal parts. “What If” is a nice example of relaxing, unobtrusive ambient melody with delicate howlings somewhere in the outer space. You can hear some kind of cosmic bells in “Infinity”, a slightly rhythmic composition. “The Light” is filled with soft background noise with vinyl-like cracks and measured melodic picture. Thus, various means and methods are used by the artist Wialenove, who often dedicates his works to space themes, as in his “Across The Universe”. So, make the infinite march along Wialenove’s “Path”.

Fellirium – Amethyst

Ritual, miraculous and enchanting sounds of Fellirium in his album “Amethyst”, released on Liminal Recs label will definitely tear you off the dullness of everyday reality. The subject area of the album may say in some way about the author’s interest in antique, exotic or isolated cultures: “Violet Tribe”,
“Spirits Gather’, “Offering For The Stars”, “Moonlight’s Daughter” and “Healer’s Dream” as if gives us an excursion into some unknown ethnic group. The album is full of ethnic rhythms, which could belong to the sphere of some shamanic rutual dances. This rythms are mesmerizing and soothing, they duffer much from European “tuz-tuz-tuz”, they contain some natural element, that’s why they are quite comfortable for human ears; such rhythms are mainly for the dance of spirit, not for the physical body. So, join the magic dances with Fellirium’s “Amethyst”.

Macabro & Lacerba – Behind The Trees/Under The Leaves

One day I found a very interesting release on Liminal Recs label – a split album of Macabro (a project from Latvia) and Lacerba (a project from a Russian city Penza), consisting of 4 tracks, that is called “Behind The Trees/Under The Leaves”, where the musicians tried to put the listener into a specific atmosphere of a fairy forest, where one must be rather conscious and careful, as everything can be expected from such a strange place. The first piece – “Amanita” (Macabro) brings the listener into a fantastic and psychedelic world of flickering dreams, its tranquilizing melodic guitar drone reveals the prophesying essence of the mushroom Amanita, which mysterious image often occurs in fairy tales and legends all over the world. It is a real embodiment of an altered state of mind. The next track – “Forest Butterfly” (Lacerba) – is an arranged complex of sounds, soaring like a butterfly – from one flower to another and wherever it wants. The third track – “You Breathe” (Lacerba) – as if shows the embarrassment of a man, who entered the forest, and later found himself lost in it. The conclusion of the album – “Fireflies”  – is another nice guitar drone of Macabro, that summarizes the impressions from this strange place, adding the decisive stroke into the conceptual area of the album. It’s worth mentioning, that the whole sonic picture of the split produces a warming effect on a listener by its saturated and colourful radiance.

Gasgruel – Inwardness

Total destruction. Ubiquitous death. Apocalypse here and now. Gasgruel’s music makes us aware of the danger of our dark sides. His work “Inwardness” gives a picturesque view of war and its horrors. There is not so much information in the Internet about the author, which hides behind the pseudonym Gasgruel, but it is known, that he comes from Kaliningrad, and the project was founded in 2005. Album “Inwardness” is released on Liminal Recs label. The first thing, that bursts upon the eye is the stratified and rather complicated texture of the sonic narration – sounds of shooting weapon, suffering people, damped conversations, explosions, much noise are mixed into a terrible sense attack, creating a picture of a bloody battle – a result of allowance of human stupidity development, which may certainly be its inwardness. All this seems to be the musical embodiment of Erich Maria Remarque’s “All Quiet on the Western Front” and other of his novels, which through naturalism try to awaken people’s mind and to show, that wars occur like an avalanche – from an insignificant snowball to a shattering great mass. From greed and wish of power to killing. In one of Gasgruel’s interviews, he says, that gold is dust. Furthermore, he adds, that we shouldn’t live for earning money, because we don’t have so much time for wasting it on such trifles. I completely agree with him and support the idea of his album “Inwardness”. Almost 40 minutes of death, fire and tortures reveal the self-annihilation potential of our modern world. Almost 40 minutes, that must make us become deep in thoughts.
