Pale Blue Sky – Souvenir

Stable and luminous, dreamy and life-asserting is the cassette release from Jugular Forest label, called “Souvenir” by Pale Blue Sky. “Far away music for memories”, as quite accurately observed on the official release page, with its tranquilizing and ennobling notes, is definitely well-organized, in spite of the seemingly simple structure and the manner of performance. It’s not enough to be keen on playing music, and it’s really not necessary to complicate music with numerous elements and effects – to create a certain peculiar atmosphere one must rely on his inner voice and the flash of inspiration, combined knowledge and feeling of music. Mike Pollard managed to achieve this result in his project Pale Blue Sky. This regular, balanced soft drones appear to be a real souvenir, and may be a gift for a ambient-lover. So, accept the “Souvenir” from Pale Blue Sky.

Yellow Crystal Star – Rainbow Bridge To Dream Mirror Orb

Mark Billings’project Yellow Crystal Star in March of 201o had a release on Jugular Forest label, an album, called “Rainbow Bridge To Dream Mirror Orb”. Having a very expressive cover picture, this album turns out to be not less interesting. It consists of two tracks – “Amaranth” and “A Way Out A Way In Out”, with some indistinct, blurred field recordings and radiant drone bedding. In the first track you can hear some kind of looped samples of female singing, some drawling humming, which closer to the end, switch to the loud phase with staccato guitar sounds, which absorb in the huge reverberating space. In the second and the final track, you hear a real ragout of sounds – from the crowd’s noise, through birds’ tweets, to gurgling of the flowing water; again here the guitar drone is the leading part, which sets the complex of variable moods. So, have a walk through “Rainbor Bridge To Dream Mirror Orb” under the light of Yellow Crystal Star.

Earn – In A Year

“In A Year” is a truly enchanting release from Jugular Forest label, which was created by Earn, also known as Matthew Sullivan. The sound is represented by guitar oscillations, drones of unknown origin, discrete organ hummings, which range from silent and melodic ones to furious harsh attacks with squeakings and overdrives. For me, the most favourite tracks are “Tri-City”, where unapparent airy melody tries to tear itself from the embrace of interferention signals, and “Feather (For Charles)”, where merry guitar chords are blurred into one united system, like a mixture of different colours, lazily blending with each other. However, the whole album is interesting and worth studying. I suppose, it is a nice present for a dronehead. So, have a nice psychic rest with “In A Year” by Earn.
